HUNA LEAVES NO STONE UNTURNED…
In our researches, we endeavor to “leave no stone unturned,” an admonition as old as Euripides in the fifth century B.C. We still seek the “key” to instant healing and how this may be accomplished consistently.
In a recent personal experience, involving another kind of stone, the effectiveness of Huna has been demonstrated. In addition to a few of our HRAs locally who knew of the situation and helped, the St. Louis, Mo. Huna Group was asked to lend assistance.
On October 2nd, I was struck unexpectedly by a kidney-stone attack which kept me in unremitting pain for eight days and nights. Without going into details, I will say only that orthodox medical science did nothing to help, but ordered X-rays to see what the problem was. The eight days of agony occurred because the X-ray lab did not find it convenient to make the tests sooner. When they did, the general practitioner called in a specialist and both agreed that “absolutely the only way to remove the stone in the ureter is surgery.” And so emergency surgery was insisted upon AT ONCE. I was rushed to the hospital where I waited over an hour before they got around to admitting me. Then more tests which confirmed the previous ones.
Several local HRAs were using the Huna prayer method to help. And we called Midge Farias, leader of the St. Louis Huna Group, which meets every Monday night. They made a special effort on my behalf and I felt confident that we were successful. But I had a few moments of doubt when the X-rays kept confirming the diagnosis. On the night after the Group’s healing circle in my behalf, the pain had stopped immediately at 9:30 p.m. and never returned.
The next morning a single check X-ray revealed that the kidney stone had disappeared! Completely, without a trace! Surgery was cancelled. And the doctors were puzzled. I learned that it was not unusual for such a stone to pass just before the scheduled surgery — but they find it and test for the type of crystallization has taken place. But for the stone to disappear was most unusual.
We definitely feel that the Huna work done on my behalf removed the stone.
In our follow-up correspondence with the St. Louis HRAs, some interesting things were noticed. Midge had written to Ann: “We put Otha’s name in our healing circle and also gave him a special day for all of our group to think of him during the day and to send him help when it was needed.” This is an excellent idea other groups can make use of — in addition to the group work — have each individual assigned a day to keep the vital force flowing. In another letter, Midge writes: “One of the most delightful things about our group is the changes in the members. There has been a maturing and peace that slowly comes into your life when Huna philosophy becomes a way of life. It has brought peace and understanding.”
Another member of the group, Vi Dopman, wrote of what took place at the particular meeting on Oct. 7, when my telephoned request was acted upon. Here is part of that letter: “Something happened at that meeting of October 7 during which we concentrated especially on you, which I felt was unusual at the time and, with the receipt of your letter and “feedback” on the workings of Huna, certainly feel was a “marker.” I had brought a 60-year old spiritualist with me as my guest that night (for the first time). She sat on one end of the couch with a vacant seat in the middle and Bob S. sat at the other end. Both she and Bob were alert and in excellent spirits. In fact, in retrospect, Bob says he almost was “hyper” that night. Yet during meditation both my guest and bob “fell asleep” and did not respond, not only with their own names but with that of anyone else’s. (This has never happened before.) My very strong hunch at that time and my feeling now is that they personally were the channels of our mana to you.
Midge’s feeling is that the couch seat in the middle was not empty, but was occupied by you.” I can report from my experience also that I had a special “feeling” that night of being transported somewhere, or “traveling” but at the time could not pinpoint exactly what the feeling meant. It seems very likely that Vi has described exactly what did happen that night.
I am very grateful for the help received via our Huna friends, and I might add that the doctor also insists that the two remaining stones in my left kidney can only be removed by surgery. I told him I was going to concentrate on making them disappear (I was serious) — he laughed, and said I could concentrate all I wanted to, but they would “definitely NOT disappear.” We shall see. We are continuing to work on this with the Huna method, and are not neglecting the marvelous nutritional advice of our own Dolly Ware and Dr. Ellis. All HRAs are asked to help with this — whenever you may think of it.
And of course our TMHG work continues — as we “meet” nightly at 9 p.m. CST, everyone sending in extra mana to me here at the Study, and I direct it to all those who send in requests of all kinds for help. I am doing quite well physically now and getting back almost to my usual schedule. So, in addition to working on the above-mentioned problem, we can all work together in helping anyone who may need our help. Requests still come in. If the 9 o’clock hour cannot be kept by you — pause a few minutes at ANY HOUR of the day or night, send the mana and it will be received an used to good advantage. — E.O.W.

Cigbo and I have just completed a reprint of the Transcriptions of Max Freedom Long’s Short Talks on Huna from the original mimeograph stencils. The taped lectures (nine twenty-minute talks) were transcribed by Max. 45 pp., paper cover, $3.00. Limited to 100 copies. Eden, Jerome, Animal Magnetism and the Life Energy (Exposition Press, 1974). Foreword by Barbara G. Koopman, M.D., Ph.D, xviii + 221 pp. (biblio. & index). Available from EDEN Press, Box 34, Careywood, IDAHO 83809. $8.50 + 50¢.
Mr. Eden has made a major contribution to mankind’s knowledge by restoring the true meaning of the work of Dr. Franz Anton Mesmer and of what mesmerism really is. He establishes the fact that Mesmer never practiced hypnotism, but “his theories and treatment of disease are based upon energetic techniques that result in physiological changes in the human body” (p.4). This is of particular interest and importance to HRAs, who work with the principle of vital force called mana (see Max Freedom Long’s Self-Suggestion and the New Huna Theory of Mesmerism and Hypnosis, where he also carefully distinguishes the two concepts). This book is the very essence of some twenty years of study of Mesmer’s life and work. It is Jerome Eden also who has brought us important books on the work of Dr. Wilhelm Reich: Orgone Energy, The Answer to Atomic Suicide, 1972, ($6.00); and Planet in Trouble, The UFO Assault on Earth, 1973, ($7.50), both of which may also be ordered from EDEN Press. I tried to read Reich and found it tough going. After reading Mr. Eden’s books, I found the basic insights and direction I needed to start digging into all of Reich’s books themselves. Fortunately, the complete works of Reich are being brought back into print by Farrar, Straus and Giroux, of New York, through its Noonday Press division.
In Animal Magnetism and the Life Energy, Eden correlates the Mesmeric force used to heal disease with orgone energy identified by Dr. Reich: “The credit for the actual scientific discovery and scientific verification of a Cosmic Life Energy belongs solely and exclusively to Wilhelm Reich. I believe that Mesmer’s expressed hope that ‘some talent, better understood than mine… might go further than I’ was completely fulfilled in the vital discovery of orgone energy by Wilhelm Reich” (p.20).
In another place, Mr. Eden makes the following statement: “The day will come when mankind will understand ‘miraculous healing’ in terms of the movement and lumination of the Life Energy. I do believe we can direct this energy with thought” (“View From Eden,” in Caveat Emptor No. 14, July-August 1974, p. 24).
THIS BOOK IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO HRAs. In fact, you are urged to obtain a copy and read it at once.
As this review was being written, a letter arrived from Jerome Eden, telling of his many attempts to get a hearing for his important work and how often his books are ignored when sent to important people in high places (even free copies often not even acknowledged). Paid ads have been rejected. He is starting a quarterly EDEN Bulletin and this might be of interest to many HRAs who are interested in energy research, healing, and environmental problems. TWO OLDER BOOKS ON MESMER are available now because of the enterprising interest of Health Research in California, which reprints hundreds of rare and hard-to-get books. These are both manuals for the actual use of Dr. Mesmer’s techniques and may be ordered through Huna Research Associates (we forward orders which are drop-shipped from California, with our address label). The titles describe the contents rather thoroughly:

ELEPHANT’S EYE VIEW OF “PSYCHIC SURGERY” MORE BIG ELEPHANT TALK
(Continued from HUNA VISTAS No. 11, Summer, 1974)
In our initial report, Dolly and I used the figure of speech, “BIG ELEPHANT TALK” — a figure used by Max Freedom Long when important matters were being discussed. I also used the reference of the “Blind Men and the Elephant” to illustrate how variable are the reports of the healers in the Philippines, who have come to be called “psychic surgeons,” but who call themselves “mediums.” I mentioned that our sources of preparatory information included extensive clipping files, private reports and published books.
Harold Sherman’s ‘Wonder’ Healers of the Philippines (1966) was the first major book on the subject. Mr. Sherman, author of 85 books, many of which are best sellers in the ESP field, made extensive preparation of equipment and personnel in his investigative trip to observe Tony Agpaoa, but met with obstacles of time and circumstance which greatly hampered his work. This book vividly describes these adventures. This was the period when Tony was very much in the news — and very much on the “list” of orthodox medical officials who were trying to stop his activities. In spite of this, Mr. Sherman was able to make a valuable report — in fact the only reasonable and objective one among dozens of highly inflated and biased ones (pro and con) either privately printed or scattered in newspaper and magazine articles. Even though much needed and timely, Mr. Sherman’s book was published before the second investigative team could be taken to the Philippines and its findings correlated with the previous one. As it turned out, the elaborately ambitious plan for an even more extensive and more thoroughly scientific investigation met with disaster, as the medical authorities closed in and the opportunities for observation were practically eliminated. This story of intrigue and adventure is in itself interesting and is told briefly by the master story-teller, Harold Sherman, in Your Mysterious Powers of ESP (1969), Chapter 9.
After our trip to the Philippines, Harold graciously invited Dr. Ellis, Dolly and me to visit him in his mountain hideaway in the Arkansas Ozarks and bring him up to date on our own observations — eight years after his first trip. Dr. Ellis was on one of his many lecture trips and had to go at a later date, but Dolly and I flew to Little Rock and drove up to see Harold for three days. (An unexpected highlight was the ‘discovery’ that the huge and magnificent Blanchard Cave had been opened to the public only this year and since Harold had been one of its earlier explorers and had been instrumental in making it available to the public, he managed to get us a reservation for a tour.) We enjoyed long talks with Harold and his wife, Martha, shared our adventures and heard many of theirs, took long walks in the rocky Ozark woods, and stepped nimbly over cottonmouths.
A most interesting and informative feature of this visit was ARTHUR SHERMAN (Harold is Arthur’s brother), known in those parts as “the Dowser” of Stone Co. Arthur had located by dowsing with a peach or willow branch many of the water wells of the area, including two in Harold and Martha’s back yard. He found some forked branches for us and demonstrated his talents. It was my first time to see a dowser in action and it was quite a remarkable sight. The branch is held so that the fork naturally points upward, palms up and there is no way to bend the arms or hands that would cause the fork to point down. After observing a few times, we tried it ourselves. It was all in fun, I thought, so it wouldn’t be too deflating if it failed to move. So I walked slowly, and to my surprise, the point of the forked branch twisted and pulled until it was pointing directly toward the ground, on the very spot where the water line ran from the well to the house. The ends turned forcibly in my hands, no matter how tight I held on. Several attempts brought the same results — and likewise when I tried it back home in Missouri. Dolly also was successful in dowsing under the direction of Master Dowser Arthur.
Tom Valentine’s Psychic Surgery (1973) adds little to the subject, doing little more than bringing Sherman’s account of Tony up to date. It is surprising that he reiterated the story of Tony when other important healers have come into the news, such as Juan Blance, Jose Mercado, and Josephine Sisson. Juan Blance, for example, has willingly submitted to complete tests under the strictest conditions, and has expressed willingness to be tested further under the proper conditions.
Although not specifically a part of the story of the Philippine healers, a related book of tremendous impact and importance is ARIGO: Surgeon of the Rusty Knife (1974), the story of the Brazilian healer whose instant surgery has become famous throughout the world. The author is John G. Fuller.
ANOTHER BIG ELEPHANT TALK SESSION took place when our paths crossed those of George W. Meek. We had obtained his book, From Séance to Science (1973 ), while in Manila. Most important, we had the opportunity to examine Mr. Meek’s extensive private report of the psychic surgeons, when our newly made friend, Joaquin Cunanan, showed us a copy in Manila. With his permission, we obtained at considerable expense a duplicate copy, including forty pages of color photographs. We were impressed with the scope of the report, the eight-member team with scientific backgrounds in various fields, and the focus on certain prerequisite ideas which are the keys to understanding the phenomenon. One of these was the Huna concept, as revealed in the books of Max Freedom Long.
As soon as I could dig myself out of the huge stack of correspondence that had accumulated while I was away from the Study, I contacted Mr. Meek by letter. He was ready to start on an extended auto trip out west with his wife, Jeannette, made a call to Dolly and arranged to stop by Fort Worth on Labor Day. I flew down for the weekend to get in on the Big Elephant Talk. George had made three Philippine trips in all and took with him each time those persons in various countries who could add to the perspective that was needed. The one-day session went all too quickly and we had a chance to see only a few of the excellent color movies he had with him. Some of his plans include a color documentary movie and perhaps a book on his findings. We’ll keep in touch with him and keep you posted on whatever comes of this.
THE TESTIMONY OF THREE WITNESSES
What did WE see? Here is a brief illustration. Dr. Ellis, Dolly, and I observed this case on June 16. This operation was performed by Juan Blance, one of the most impressive of the healers. He is not spectacular, as others are reported to be. Rather, he is quiet, unassuming, confident. He has not profiteered from his seventeen years as a psychic surgeon. He treats mostly the very poor who cannot afford even a peso. He works steadily at his remarkable healing day after day in a tiny room in Pasig, on the outskirts of Manila, It takes nearly an hour to get there by taxi. He operates from 3:30 to 7:30 a.m., then goes to his regular job as a laborer.
The patient was a woman of perhaps forty. She had a huge cyst on the left buttock. It was about the size of a fist. There was no preparation, no anesthetic, no ritual. She walked in and lay face down on the table. Blance’s now famous incision was made at once — no scalpel or knife of any kind, no instrument. He took the hand of an observer (in this case, it was Dolly’s), held the hand with index finger pointing straight down, about 10 to 12 inches ABOVE THE BODY. At no time did he touch the body. Blance’s left hand was held in full view, directed toward the woman’s body. He gave Dolly’s hand a quick movement in the air — and a superficial cut appeared immediately across the top of the cyst. It appeared all at once, not from one end to the other. It took two more quick movements of the hand (still held above the body) to make the incision deep enough to penetrate the capsule of cyst.
At this point, Blance reached down with his powerful hands and squeezed all the infectious material out into a chipped enamel pan — a scene not for the queasy observer. With an old hemostat and small scissors, he pulled and tugged on the fibrous material of the sack of the cyst until it was completely removed. Nothing “psychic” about that — except that the patient felt NO pain. And no antiseptic was needed or used, since no infection had ever developed in spite of unsanitary conditions. Blance had told the patient only: “Pray, in your own way.”
WHAT did we see? When reading about these phenomena, they are unbelievable enough. “Seeing is believing,” so it is said. But we have concluded that in this case, seeing is almost more unbelievable than hearing. When reading, we can always have in reserve a bit of “Well, maybe…” But to observe what we saw with our own eyes left no escape from facing reality. Our combined and blended experience observed the same thing. Dolly and I were especially grateful for Dr. Ellis’s keen sense of observation, and his many years of experience as a surgeon, adding a dimension to our own observation that we could not have had other wise. Here are some tentative conclusions:
- We actually did see “psychic surgery” that was authentic.
- We saw some operations that could only be explained by the application of such a phenomenon as materialization, e.g. blood and all sorts of fibrous material which “appeared” on the surface of the body, when no incision of any kind had been made.
- Some were faked — not in the sense of hidden objects palmed by sleight of hand, but one healer became devitalized by the first operation or treatment and thereafter made all sorts of passes and gestures without any effect whatever. The faking was in pretending he was treating when he was not.
- The Huna concepts of aka body, mana and remolding the physical body according to the original blueprint are the KEYS.

- Dr. Martin A. Larson, long-time friend of MFL and HRA writes that his book, The Religion of the Occident, much praised by Max Freedom Long, is now out of print. He has made a few copies available to HRA — the paperback edition, which may be had for $2.50 as long as 15 copies last.
- CANADA is the scene of another HUNA Workshop on Nov. 30 & Dec. 1. I will give a major lecture at 8 p.m., Nov. 30, and two workshops on Dec. 1, on the lovely Brealey Campus of Sir Sandford Fleming College in Peterborough.
